Brief Profile Prof. Dr. Salman Shahzad is a Professor of Clinical Psychology, currently he is leading as clinical Incharge, and Incharge “Research and Training Unit for prevention and treatment of SUD” at the Institute of Clinical Psychology (ICP). He has completed his specialization in substance use prevention and treatment, education and policy, epidemiology of mental health and substance use as Fulbright Humphrey Fellowship from Virginia Commonwealth University, USA. He is an International Certified Addiction Professional, and Global Master Trainer in Universal Treatment Curricula (UTC-CP-DAP; NL, USA), as well as Global in Prevention Coordinator in Universal Prevention Curricula (UPC-CP-DAP; USA) of substance use, and Global Master Trainer for The Child Intervention for Living Drug-Free (CHILD-CP-DAP; CHILD-INL, USA), also serving as Global Drug Demand Reduction Trainer (Global DDR-UNODC, Vienna). Prof. Salman is a leading researcher, interventionist and academician and has special interest in mental health and substance use prevention and treatment (i.e., risk and protective factors for substance use like Opiods, methamphetamine, marijuana, alcohol and tobacco, and HIV/Aids, stigma related to substance use and mental health problems, risk taking behaviors, coping skills, emotion regulation, neuro-cognitive functioning, personality characteristics, resilience, attachment, trauma & abuse, impulsivity and personality characteristics, etc) in children adolescents and young adults. Currently he is collaborating on research on translation an adaptation of measurement tools/instruments, and designing/developing and adaptation of interventions and programs, clinical trials on MI-CBT, Family programs, Healthy Minds intervention, Mindfulness based relapse prevention, and other scalable psychological innovations in mental health and substance use. He has also sat as member of Expert Working Group (EWG) in prevention and treatment of substance use disorder at international level. Prof. Salman is currently doing number of projects as Principal Investigator (PI), i.e., Substance Abuse Prevention Programs and Interventions (SAPPI-HEI), funded by Higher Education Commission, Pakistan and Supported by World Bank Groups, Provincial Coordinator on National Drug Survey-2022, Principal Investigator of Strong Families Program and, Personality Disorder, and building resilience through “Healthy Minds Intervention. Prof. Dr. Salman has also contributed in the development of policy guidelines and document for institutions in Pakistan.
